Environmental Stewardship For the Homeowner: A Guide to Buying Crushed Stone

At Luck Stone, we appreciate your residential business and want to make your experience a pleasant one. Please follow the steps outlined below, and use our web site for product and location information. When you’re ready, please call our scale office where we’ll take your order, schedule a delivery, and answer any additional questions that you may have.

Step 1: WHAT TYPE OF STONE DO I NEED?
Driveway applications are our most common homeowner request and usually our Crusher Run, Base, or product #57’s or #68’s are appropriate. Well established, level driveways may only need an inch or two in depth to restore them. If your driveway has large holes or ruts (deeper than 4 inches), you may need to have a contractor grade your driveway prior to applying stone. Our scale office associates can help you find local contractors for this grading if needed. If your driveway is going to be paved in the near future, our #21A’s are recommended. Please review the Products portion of our website for detailed information.

Step 2: HOW MUCH STONE WILL I NEED?
To determine the amount of stone you will need, you will need to calculate the square footage that will be covered. You can use the tables below or using our online guide.

Step 3: WHICH LOCATION SHOULD I USE?
Luck Stone operates plants throughout Virginia and central North Carolina. It is recommended that you locate the nearest plant by using our Locations section since delivery charges are based on mileage. On the specific plant pages you will find phone numbers and email addresses which you can contact us through. You will also find links to driving directions which you can use to check the mileage.

Step 4: HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?
Material pricing is based on a per ton rate times the tons desired. Delivery charges are based on the mileage from our plant to your home. A minimum delivery charge may apply for smaller loads. We accept cash, checks, Visa and Master Card. A charge for spreading your material may apply in some areas.

Step 5: HOW WILL THE STONE BE DELIVERED?
We prefer for you to be home when your material arrives so the driver can best meet your needs. If you want the driver to spread the material please let us know when you place your order. Most driveways are not perfectly flat which makes uniform spreading difficult. Spreading is not guaranteed. Freezing temperatures prevent the driver from spreading your material.

Please let us know about any overhead obstacles or other hazards. Also, closed in or tight areas may prevent the driver from delivering your material into your residence. Most residential concrete or asphalt driveways are not designed for heavily loaded commercial trucks. Driveway damage may occur as a result.

Please Note: Deliveries are made by independent contractor haulers. Delivery is quoted to the curb or property line. Customer assumes responsibility for any damages beyond these points.
