Our Bealeton plant is located on Route 17 in Fauquier County, Virginia, about 20 miles northwest of Fredericksburg. With production initiated in 1988, Bealeton serves a growing market on the fringes of the Northern Virginia. Industry awards include the National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association’s Environmental Eagle Award, Quarry of the Year and the Community Relations Award.

With its superior shaping and color, Bealeton riprap is used on many waterway projects found on the Chesapeake Bay, The Potomac River, and Lake Anna.

Geological History
Bealeton mines a type of rock known as traprock by miners or diabase by geologists – a dense, igneous rock with a greenish-black to bluish-black color. Formed by hot magma 200 million years ago, diabase is composed mainly of pyroxene, a dark mineral containing iron, and plagioclase, a lighter mineral in weight and color. Other minerals lending it its green-black color are epidote (green) and hornblende (black).
