Rivanna Plant

Located off of Route 29 by the Rivanna Reservoir and the Charlottesville Albemarle Airport, the Rivanna Plant was acquired by Luck Stone in 2018. This well-located quarry will serve the Route 29 growth corridor of Albemarle County. The products at this location are uniquely lighter colored, compared to those at our other quarries in the Charlottesville area.

Geology 

The Rivanna site mines a light gray-white granite that is medium to coarse grained with a sugary texture. It is primarily made of quartz, white feldspar and dark biotite mica. The granite was injected into surrounding igneous rock of Precambrian age (>550 million years old) and as a result became part of the Virginia Blue Ridge Complex.
