Spartanburg, Greenville, Union, Laurens, Newberry
The rock at Enoree is mined from the Gneiss of Laurens geologic unit which formed approximately 440 to 470 million years ago. This rock was part of a large metamorphic event that formed the Lauren’s Thrust Sheet which separates the Western Piedmont from the Central Piedmont province. This rock type is primarily a biotite gneiss that can be cross-cut by igneous dikes. The minerals found in this rock type include biotite, quartz, plagioclase, epidote, and amphibole.
